In the Disney movie "Frozen", on of the main characters is Prince Hans of the Southern Isles.
Now Hans is your typical attractive male; he is a prince, therefore he is rich. He is also handsome, resilient, and an amazing tenor. He can dance like there is no tomorrow. And from the moment Anna (the main protagonist) saw him, she knew he must be "the one". Later that very evening, after much dancing and singing about how "Love is an Open Door", they arrive back at the castle to ask the newly anointed Queen Elsa (who happens to be Anna's older sister) to bless their marriage.
When Elsa accidentally freezes the entire kingdom and surrounding terrain, and Anna decides to go and talk to her, Hans at first demands to go with her to protect her. It is only after Anna leaves Hans in charge of the kingdom (in public) that he allows her to adventure up the mountain alone. While she is away, Hans distributes all of the food, blankets, and firewood from inside the castle out to the people, much to the dismay of the Duke of Weasletown (Weselton), the leader of Arendelle's closest partner in trade. When Anna's horse comes back to the kingdom without her, Hans volunteered, as he vaulted onto her horse, to go and rescue her, as well as to go and consult with the Magus, Queen Elsa. Many soldiers agree to accompany him, as well as the Duke's two bodyguards. The duke instructs them to "put an end to this winter", in other words to kill Elsa at any cost.
When the rescue party gets to Queen Elsa's inscrutable Castle of Ice (she had brought it into existence in an earlier scene), and a gigantic snow monster nicknamed "Snowball" attacks them to try and make them stay away from Elsa. Hans, however, being the fearless, virile prince that he is, attacks the beast and manages to slice off the monster's leg. While it is distracted, the two bodyguards of Weselton are able to slip past and into the castle, where they try to kill Elsa. By the time Hans gets inside, Elsa has one man up against the wall with an ice crystal slowly going toward his throat, and the other about to be pushed off the balcony of her tower by a block of ice. Hans stops her by shouting "Queen Elsa! Don't do this! don't be the monster they all fear you are!" Then the bodyguard against the wall aims his crossbow at Elsa, but just as he pulls the trigger Hans jerks his arm upward, and the bolt loosed from its weapon hits the chandelier, causing it to fall and almost hit Elsa, and though she dodges most of it, one large piece hits her in the head and knocks her unconscious.
Later, back at the castle, Elsa wakes up and finds herself in chains, locked in the dungeon, due to the fact that she is "highly dangerous". Prince Hans comes in and after a short conversation Elsa requests that Hans let her go, to protect everyone from herself. Hans simply responds "I'll see what I can do" and exits the room. At the same time, Anna and Kristoff are racing down the mountain with Olaf the snowman to get a true love's kiss to thaw Anna's quickly freezing heart. (If any of that seems random, I suggest watching the movie.) When they got to the castle, Anna insisted that Hans kiss her. He hurriedly caries her over to and lays her on the couch, where she smiles trustingly at him. He leans in to kiss her.........
AND THEN HE LAUGHS.
Hans NEVER loved Anna, he was using her to gain control of Arendelle! He was going to wait until after the marriage to cause an "accident" to get rid of Anna and Queen Elsa, but now Anna was going to die anyway, and Hans was going to go kill Elsa himself. He put out the fire, opened the window to the frigid air, and locked her in the room, leaving her to die. He then told the officials of Arendelle that, "At least we got to complete our wedding vows, before she......... died in my arms. It is with a heavy heart that I convict Queen Elsa of Arendelle of treason, and sentence her......... to death." When the guards go to retrieve her, however, Elsa uses her powers to escape her shackles, and Prince Hans runs after her with sword in hand. Meanwhile Anna escapes her imprisonment with the help of Olaf just as Kristoff and Sven the reindeer ride onto the frozen canal, over all the submerged ships that were in the water when it was frozen. As Anna stumbles in the general direction of Kristoff, Hans is pretending to be good and make Elsa stop running, and he tells her that her sister is already dead. "You killed her! She's dead." Elsa collapses and begins to cry, and the blizzard stops. Kristoff sees Anna and begins to run her way. Anna begins to trudge toward him, but when then she sees this out of the corner of her eye.
Anna somehow finds the strength to run over and throw up her hand to ward off the blow, but just before the sword hits her hand she freezes completely solid. Elsa sees what she has done, and throws her body against her frozen sister and begins to cry loudly. Slowly, Anna begins to unfreeze, because any act of true love will thaw a frozen heart. Elsa then gains control over her powers though loving her sister and learning to accept herself for the way she is. Elsa unfreezes Arendelle. The two sisters embrace. Hans then comes back into the boat where they are all standing and looks confused. He stammers "But, she froze your heart. I thought-" Anna cuts him off. "The only frozen heart around here is yours." she turns away calmly, and then does something we all wish we could do to Hans right then.
All in all, Hans is a jerk, and the main villain in the story.
DO NOT TRUST HANS!
